After their wedding, newspaper writers John (Owen Wilson) and Jennifer Grogan (Jennifer Aniston) move to Florida. In an attempt to stall Jennifer's "biological clock", John gives her a puppy. While the puppy Marley grows into a 100 pound dog, he loses none of his puppy energy or rambunctiousness. Meanwhile, Marley gains no self-discipline. Marley's antics give John rich material for his newspaper column. The Museum of Natural History is under construction, so the exhibits are packed up and put into storage at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. Meanwhile, Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) has given up his security-guard career to run Daley Devices, a company specializing in unusual inventions. When Larry gets a frantic call from Jedediah (Owen Wilson) explaining that the Tablet of Ahkmenrah has been stolen and Pharaoh Kahmunrah is up to no good, Larry and his son (Jake Cherry) head to Washington. With help from his old friends and some new ones, Larry must take down Kahmunrah and save the day.
